CHODOR ENSI rug (Central Asia), late 19th century. - Lot 81
CHODOR ENSI rug (Central Asia), late 19th century. The star of this Ensi rug is the central brick cross, vegetalized, crenellated and serrated, a stylized tree of life. It lies on a brick field with rows of small bluish flowering stems. The frame is composed of a brick border with a succession of starry crosses, supplanted by stylized floral botehs on the left side. It is flanked by two ivory counter-borders with series of trophies, double botehs and small diamond-shaped boxes. Two reserves, an upper one with geometric columns and a lower one with inverted staggered trees of life and polychrome columns of plant stems, enclose the whole. Magnificent example of a Hatchlou rug (from the Armenian Khatch-croix). Wool pile on wool foundation. Good condition. 151 x 131 cm
