Original XXth Century Modern rug. Circa 1940/50 Wool velvet on cotton backing Ivory field decorated with repeated dancing silhouettes. Dimensions 295 x 200 cm A very strong visual movement, with a dense, expressive composition. The spirit can be traced back to Henri Matisse, Braque, Raoul Dufy and Albert Claes-Thobois (Belgian artist, active before 1945). Neo-expressionist, graphic maximalist spirit, which we'll see again with Keith Haring's Street Art influence. Interesting exhibition: Keith Haring at Tate Liverpool, Keith Haring retrospective at the Musée d'Art Contemporain de Lyon.
