HAMADA Tomoo (b. 1967) son of Shinsaku Hamada, son of Shoji - Lot 175
HAMADA Tomoo (b. 1967) son of Shinsaku Hamada, son of Shoji Hamada (Living National Treasure) Mingei movement. Enameled stoneware bottle vase with hemmed neck, brown background with abstract motif, base in reserve. Unsigned. H. 15.5 cm (Good condition) Provenance : Purchased from the Yakimono Gallery in Kyoto run by Robert Yellin in the 2000s. Private collection. Son of Shinsaku Hamada and grandson of National Living Treasure Shoji Hamada, Tomoo Hamada belongs to a long family tradition of representatives of the Mingei movement. This "folk art movement", born in the mid-1920s, deploys simplicity and modesty in all traditional art forms, inspiring Charlotte Perriand, Sori Yanagi and the entire free-form movement almost 30 years later. The third generation of the Hamada kiln family, Tomoo ensures the continuity of the family's ceramic creations, whose pieces are exhibited internationally, from London's Victoria & Alberts museum to San Francisco's Asian Art Museum.
