"; explicit, " [...] after this laborious exile & mortal life with his blessed angels the holy & very happy rest in his eternal glory. Amen".
ff. 44-44v, Prayer at the end of the manuscript, introduced by the rubric, Oraison a dieu pour luy demander lignée ; incipit, " Mon dieu père éternel qui avez ordonné & institué le sacrement de mariaige pour multiplier le genre humain... " ; explicit, " [...] & que a iamais en paradis soit par iceulx en la compaignie des benoistz sainctz & sainctes vostre hault nom & immortel loué & honoré. A[men]".
ff. 45-47v, ruled blank leaves, with the exception of an inscription on the recto of leaf 47: "This manuscript is from the fourteenth century".
This manuscript contains an exposition of conjugal morality punctuated by historical and scriptural examples, compiled by an author who, for the time being, remains anonymous. We have found no trace of it in directories of early and Renaissance texts in manuscript form. It is partly, but only partly, inspired by Raoul de Montfiquet's Traitié du saint sacrement, estat et fruit de mariage, et de la grande excellence, perfection, dignité, vertu et louenge d'icelluy...compilé par Maistre Raoul de Montfiquet, Paris, Durant-Gerlier, 1495. A passage in the first chapter of Raoul de Montfiquet's work begins as follows: "Marriage is an indissoluble bond or obligation between persons of legitimate man and woman / because of their consent by which they give and transport their bodies to each other to engender, nourish and instruct to the loyalty of god lineage..." (copy consulted: BnF, Réserve, D-4873). This incipit is not reproduced verbatim in the present anonymous manuscript, but we can clearly see the influence of Raoul de Montfiquet, a 15th-century writer of Norman origin, once rector of the University of Paris (1475), who died in 1501 (see Dictionnaire des lettres françaises. Le Moyen Age, Paris, 1992, pp. 1240-1241).
The text of the present manuscript differs from Raoul de Montfiquet's very quickly, notably in its clear references to the 16th century and the reign of François I, King of France (1515-1547). Let's quote the reference to the beginnings of the Reformation: "Et icy ne veulx taire le tresillustre & catholicque faict digne de grande & perpétuelle mémoire du Roy treschrestien Francois premier Roy de ce nom qui estant a Fontaynebleau peu de temps après Pasques l'an cinq cens trente trois le dixneufiesme de son r
