Auguste VILLIERS de L'ISLE-ADAM. First poems. 1856-1858. Lyon, Scheuring et Cie, 1859. In-8, blue half-maroquin bradel, cover (Champs).
Vicaire, VII-1089 /// 180-(2f.).
Rare first edition of Villiers de L'Isle-Adam's first major collection of poetry. A year earlier, the poet had published a 15-page booklet: Deux essais de poésie.
Autograph letter signed A mon cher ami Léon Cladel, / souvenir, / Auguste Villiers de L'Isle-Adam.
Léon Cladel was one of the very first poets Villiers de L'Isle-Adam met when he arrived in Paris, notably at the literary salon run by Count Hyacinthe Du Pontavice de Heussey. He would later pass this judgment on the writer: Villiers at twenty was prodigious.
