CHIRVAN gallery carpet (Caucasus), late 19th century. A long, jagged cherry field, sown with flowers, supports a succession of linked hexagons with stylized polychrome vegetal decorations. The ivory border is adorned with geometrical flowers in starry caissons, and flanked by two old gold counter-borders with undulating floral stems. Two-tone highlights. Pleasant ensemble. Wool velvet on wool foundation. Minor wear and maintenance restorations. 255 x 104 cm
