CHINA, late Qing dynasty, circa 1900. Silk piece embroidered in the upper register with a frieze of immortals, while dancers and theater actors occupy the lower registers. Between and around these animated and joyful processions are embroidered numerous bouquets of flowers populated with animals, lingzhi mushrooms, bats (symbolizing happiness), longevity peaches etc. Beige silk embroidered with polychrome silk threads. Lined. Dimensions: 295 x 180 cm. (Wear, tears and stains)
