Arturo FALDI (1856-1911) Waiting (In attesa) Oil on canvas signed lower right. 50.5 x 67.5 cm Historical background: Arturo Faldi attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, the city of his birth. A pupil of painters Michele Gordigiani (1835-1909) and Giovanni Muzzioli, his early works depict historical and biblical themes. At the 1881 Paris Salon, he presented paintings impregnated with the lesson of the Macchiaolins, composed in disappointment of the Tuscan countryside, studied in plein-ai, accompanied by scenes of rural and peasant life, as evidenced by this painting recounting waiting or the quest for love. In 1889, he painted the same subject, but with a female figure. Various exhibitions: Milan, Turin, Bologna, Venice, London, Paris, Exposition Universelle de 1900, Berlin Museums: Florence, Modern Art Gallery, Rome, National Gallery, Turin, Milan Bibliography: Dizionario Biografico Degli Italiani, 1994, volume 44
